Bead Tossing with Go Snowmass

It was another marvelously snowy Fat Tuesday in Snowmass this week and we celebrated the 35th Snowmass Mardi Gras New Orleans style, bejeweled in beads and dressed up in costumes. Who ever said mountain folk don’t know how to party …. nobody.

What fun it was to throw beads from the balcony with the Mardi Gras King, John Quigley, and Queen, Marianne Rakowski, to the expectant and excited little puffed up starfish waiting below with limbs sticking out of layers of down.

The energy is always fantastic on this day and the snow made it that much more festive as did the 50-piece jazz band, The Basalt Longhorns, as they marched through the Snowmass Village mall, and of course no parade in Aspen Snowmass is ever complete without the Scottish Bagpipes closing out the line with a cheerful tune.

One of our favorite days to celebrate the locals and Snowmass businesses, we drooled as our beloved Snowmass restaurants such as; Slow Groovin’ and Gwynn’s, drove by costumed in feathers and crawfish claws, making us hungry, and then thirsty for some Hurricanes, which one would think would equate with hot breezes, fried gator and cajun music … turns out it doesn’t matter the weather or the music when celebrating Mardi Gras, when drinking Hurricanes … everything and everybody becomes hot and breezy, and there we were again, right there in it. Laissez les bon temps rouler!!!!
