Fun Aspen Events Over Christmas

At this time of year, driving down Main Street at twilight one can see the outline of Aspen Mountain silhouetted against the deep blue sky and the luminous white ski runs trailing down her side. The town of Aspen becomes a bejeweled city with sparkling white lights draping street lined trees. Enormous pine trees, blanketed in great puffs of white snow reflect the strobe of colors from the decorative lights on the Gazebo in the center of town. Aspen is turned on, bright and gorgeous.

Along with the sparkle arrives the bling, the stretch suburbans and the celebrities and the Aspen store windows dress to impress.

Walking around town with the boys I pop in to my favorite jaunts to catch the holiday buzz and find out what specials and events are taking place within the next few weeks.

My first stop was the Cos Bar on South Galena Street for I had met the Manager, Betsy Sheridan, at the Ski Tuners Ball. “You two need to meet,” our mutual friend Vince told us, and he was right for we hit it off right away. Betsy has been Manager of the shop for two years and is very proud of her well-trained and friendly staff and urged me to come in and have a makeover, which is free with a three item purchase. The Cos Bar has been in town since 1976 and is the only local place I have ever bought make-up from and so I decided to give it a shot.

Sitting down in the chair with my makeup artist, Shelli, I voiced my concern, “I don’t wear base and I don’t like it when you can tell that I am wearing make-up and I don’t want you to try to hide my wrinkles because nothing you can do will help, and this and that and the other thing….” Shelli patiently reassured me that her goal was to help me get to the place where I wanted to be, and that here in the mountains I was not alone with my makeup fears. When she finished I looked into the mirror and wondered why I had never taken advantage of their makeovers before and I promise it wasn’t because she revealed assets of mine that I was completely unaware I had.

Shelli and Betsy informed me of the visiting makeup artists that will be in the shop starting this Friday, December 17th through December 30th but forewarned me that the appointments are booking up fast. Below is the schedule so look it over and book your appointment by calling 970-925-6249. I promise you’ll walk out feeling dashing.

12/17-12/18            LAURA MERCIER 2-day Holiday Color Event

12/22-12/23           NATURA BISSE Spa Event

12/23                       LA BELLA DONNA

12/27-12/29           SISLEY (Back for his third year in a row, National Makeup Artist Emilio Leyva will be gracing faces with the hottest makeup looks for this season)

12/29-12/30           CLE DE PEAU BEAUTE

Also, on New Years Eve Cos Bar closes it’s doors to conduct only makeovers and the cost is $100 per person. Do it for yourself, you deserve it!

  1. Sounds like your experience worked out better than mine. The one year I splurged and let a makeup artist work on me before a party, my middle son arrived and said, “Mom! What the hell did you do to your face? I didn’t know this was a costume party.” 🙂 Wish I had pics, I’d send you one.

  2. Oh, how I miss Aspen at this time of year! Not the crowds, but all the sparkly lights, the deep twilight colors, and the festive feeling. One of my lifetime favorite memories is frolicking in the snow with my dog, next to the gazebo at Paepke Park sparkling with red, white and green lights in the deep December night. It was a magical moment. May you have lots of magical moments this holiday season!
