Aspen Fall Colors in Snow

[su_heading]Aspen Fall Colors in Snow[/su_heading]

As much as I adore the colors that fall brings in Colorado, and the absolutely perfect mountain biking weather, I can’t help but feel a sense of foreboding that summer is over.

Where it is true that one of my addictions is skiing through tufts of powder, I guess I am a summer girl through and through. But not my boys – oh no, I guess when one is Colorado born and bred, generally speaking, one lives for snow and as soon as the gorgeous crystallized flakes float down from the sky, thoughts of skiing distract their brains and as we drive on the wintery white treacherous roads, eyes are peeled scoping out urbans to ski on and every other word out of our freestyling mouths is “snow and ski”.

“How many snow days do you think we will have this year?”

“Is it going to snow every day now through spring?”

“Is the snow all going to melt?”

“I need new goggles, powder skis, gloves, helmets (because I left my outside for a year and found them covered in mold)….oh and did I mention that I need an entirely new wardrobe of sick ski clothes?”

It’s an expensive sport…but that is why we live here, for the snow and so we don’t travel or go out to eat so that we can buy the ski passes and put our kids in the ski programs.

I personally lament that the winter season is upon us, muting the vibrant colors and the ability to feel the sun on my bare skin. Axel, our newly 14 year old, looks at me as if I have two heads as I put on my double down while inside the house to stay warm. “MOM — he exclaims, I HATE summer when everything is sooooo alive, you have skied since you were three…what’s your problem????” I look at my gorgeous almond eyed teenager and wonder when he is going to shed that 13 year old skin and become less morbid, and more tolerant.

Admittedly, with the snow comes that excited feeling of celebration, and cravings for rum toddies and peppermint martinis. Hootie-Hoo’s excitement overfloweth as he goes into a trance staring out the window at the big flakes coming down while getting ready for school. “Are you sure it’s not a snow day?” He repeatedly asks. I bring him back to reality informing him that we live in a mountain town and unless we get six inches or more, it is likely that school is on so keep it moving….

Dropping them off at one of the most beautiful campuses on this earth, I am reminded why we live here as I take in the landscape with beautiful old barns surrounded by bright yellow trees dusted in white and I transfer images in my mind of my Tallboy mountain bike to my Armada skis and slowly shed the warmth of summer to embrace the fun that winter will bring.

Aspen Real Life

Anastasiya and Kateryna are two superwomen who created their own brand, Aspen Dream Co.

The concept for Aspen Dream Co began one summer day when Anastasiya, pregnant with twins, saw a mama bear and her 3 cubs lounging in an Aspen tree in downtown Aspen. Kateryna sketched the scene. It was not until the babies were born that Kateryna thought of the mama bear all soft and cuddly in the tree. Remembering her drawing, the idea came to design the 5-minute PJ, incredibly soft to the touch light and cozy pajamas, perfect for snuggling in bed at home, or for taking a quick jaunt to lunch. Anastasiya took the idea and ran with it creating and producing Aspen Dream Co.

These PJ’s are the perfect keepsake to bring home from Aspen and may be found at aspendreamco.com, or locally at ZEMA lingerie, Aspen CO. Also soon to be added to our new Aspen Marketplace (stay tuned).
