Lodging and Volunteers Needed for Shining Stars Winter Games, March 3-10, 2017
The mission of the Shining Stars Foundation, an Aspen-based non-profit organization, is to transform lives through year-round, outdoor recreational and social programs for children and their families who are challenged with pediatric cancer or another life-threatening illness. All programs are provided at no cost to the child or family. We aim to provide new hope for the future for these children, and we believe that hope starts with a smile.
What is the Aspen Winter Games?
The Aspen Winter Games is our largest program. We bring 70+ children to Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, for a life-changing week of high-alpine adventure. Children enjoy one-on-one, adaptive ski or snowboard instruction for 6 days. Other activities include snowmobiling, craft nights, dance parties, a talent show, and the week culminates with a celebration banquet at the St. Regis hotel. LODGING AND VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR SHINING STARS FOUNDATION WINTER GAMES
At Winter Games, over 85% of participants are in the midst of rigorous treatments and/or living with a disability. For the safety and the success of the program, each child is paired with one instructor who specializes in adaptive techniques for children with cancer. We work with as many local instructors as possible, but due to the highly specialized nature of the program, we also bring in qualified instructors from across the country who donate their time to work with these brave kids. We provide lodging for these out of town instructors. We are still in need of additional units or condos to allow us to serve the 70+ children who are applying for the program this year.
