Snowmass New Summer Events
Snowmass offers an event nearly every weekend this summer, from culinary and beer festivals such as the Snowmass Craft Beer Rendezvous, Heritage Fire, and the Snowmass Wine Festival; to biking events like the Enduro World Series and VIDA MTB Series; to weekends for car enthusiasts like the Motoring Classic & Car Club Week; and many more.
Summer 2017 features three new events, including BLUEBIRD Art + Sound(June 30-July 2), a world-class music and art event, featuring top name bands and artists; Yoga on The Mountain (August 11-13), a boutique yoga festival presented by Power Yoga Retreats, aimed at embracing the outdoors; and The Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race (September 14), the first vintage street race to occur in the mountains of Colorado in 19 years, featuring spec race cars from the 1960’s and 1970’s, part of the larger Motoring Classic & Car Club Week.
Summer Concert Line Up
This summer’s Snowmass Concert Series features eleven free concerts and two paid musical experiences – BLUEBIRD Art + Sound and JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience. Starting June 10 and ending September 9, 2017, the Free Concert Series offers highlights including Brothers Keeper featuring John Popper (June 22), Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real (July 15), Freddy Jones Band (July 27), Otis Taylor Band (August 17), and many more. Highlights for the JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience (September 1-3) include Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Lake Street Dive, Hall & Oates, The Roots, and more. The Drive-By Truckers headline BLUEBIRD Art + Sound.
With 2.8 million adjacent acres just waiting to be explored, Snowmass embraces nature like no other destination. With over 80 miles of hiking and running trails, guests can explore fields of wildflowers or take in the views of the majestic Elk Mountains within moments of arrival. Just in time for summer, Snowmass Tourism is launching a brand new website – HikeSnowmass.com. The website is dedicated to all things hiking, from dirt trails to asphalt, easy to advanced, HikeSnowmass.com provides expert advice on hiking trails in the area, as well as suggestions for where to get outfitted – from snacks and lunch, to boots and sunblock. The site also lists resources and times for guided hikes, including ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies) Wildflower Hike and Ice Age Discover Hike. HikeSnowmass.com is the go-to location for any hiking adventure in Snowmass.
New Biking Trails
New for summer 2017, Snowmass debuts new and updated bike trails, adding to the 80+ miles of terrain accessible from Snowmass Village. The Seven Star trail is new for the 2017 summer season, while the Campground Connector Trail has been rerouted. The Snowmass Loop, a 24-mile loop, which offers a modern bike flow and unique features, returns as a local and guest favorite. For those who favor lift served trails or the Snowmass Bike Park, offers lift served gravity trails seven days a week. The Snowmass Bike Park will be open late on Tuesdays from July 11-August 15 to complement the Farm to Table dinner series at Elk Camp Restaurant. New at the Ice Age Discovery Center
In 2010, during construction on the Ziegler Reservoir, located just beyond Snowmass Village, workers uncovered what became the finest high-elevation ice age fossil site in the world. Over 6,000 large bones and 30,000 small bones belonging to 52 species of vertebrate animals, were found. The Ice Age Discovery Center, a free experience dedicated to the find, continues to evolve with new casts of the original bones found at Ziegler Reservoir. Now on display at the Ice Age Discovery Center are Ms. Bumpy Head, a cast of the largest mastodon skull found, and the cast of a male femur bone. This is the first time these casts have been on display at the Ice Age Discovery Center.
New Summer Activities for Adults & Kids
Children visiting Snowmass can take their pick from a wide array of kid’s day camp opportunities. New this summer, Camp Smashbox is offering three new camps – superhero, tribal, and island camps.
New for summer 2017, Blazing Adventures is offering an enhanced version of the Mass Pass. The Mass Pass is a three or five day activity pass which includes activities such as rafting, horseback riding, bike trips, sunset dinners, and more. The pass allows guests to choose three days of activities for $350/guest or five days of activities for $550/guest. Guests have the option to choose either a full day activity or a morning and afternoon activity for each day consecutive day while using the pass. The Mass Pass offers over $250 in savings from booking activities à la carte, ideal for guests looking to get more than one great adventure out of their vacation.
The Snowmass Rodeo celebrates their 44th season this summer, one of the longest running rodeos in Colorado. The rodeo runs on Wednesday evenings from June 14 through August 23, 2017, and includes saddle bronc and bull riding, team roping, and barrel racing. Children can participate in the popular Calf Scramble and Mutton Bustin’.
Restaurant & Lodging News
Take a hike to the Summer Snack Shack at Krabloonik: New for summer 2017, Krabloonik is offer guests the chance to see the dog sledding operation in a whole new way. Guests can hike from Snowmass Village up the Nature Trail to the Sleigh Ride Trail, and down to Krabloonik, where they can take a summer kennel tour and enjoy an afternoon at the Summer Snack Shack. The Summer Snack Shack is a casual place to unplug and enjoy a cold beverage and snack in Krabloonik’s signature log cabin, or outside on the patio. The Snack Shack features root beer floats and old fashioned cream sodas for the kids, and wine and beer with charcuterie and cheese for the adults. Kennel tours are offered at 11:30am and 2:30pm, Thursday – Sunday for $10 per person (kids 9 and under are free).

Guests can complete the journey by massaging Fub Balm into tired legs and sore muscles, which is made with menthol, rosemary, pine, and lavender. Optional add-on includes a soothing Aloe facemask for windburn or sunburn, a common ailment of the outdoor enthused.

Getting to Snowmass has never been easier. New for summer 2017, Delta is adding new flights into Aspen Snowmass (ASE) with daily nonstop flights from Salt Lake City (SLC), plus nonstop flights from Los Angeles (LAX) on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. These new seasonal summer flights begin June 10, 2017, with the flights from LAX continuing through August 30. Flights from SLC will continue through September 4. Also new this summer, American and United will extend nonstop flights farther into the summer and fall seasons. United’s nonstop summer flights from Chicago/O’Hare (ORD), Houston/Bush (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO) will resume on June 8, 2017. Both IAH and SFO have extended flights through September 4, while United’s service from LAX is scheduled to continue through October 3. United’s service from ORD is scheduled to operate daily through October 27. United also flies from Denver year-round with up to eight flights daily during the summer. This will be the first time since 2008 that there have been three airlines serving Aspen Snowmass during the summer months, and this is the first time ever that nonstop flights will be offered during the summer from seven cities.
