Iron Mountain Hot Springs Wintertime Soak

Iron Mountain Hot Springs Wintertime Soak

Winter is one of the best seasons to visit Iron Mountain Hot Springs in nearby Glenwood Springs. Just a short drive from Aspen, take a break from the slopes and spend the day poolside soaking in the healing mineral waters.

This winter wiggle into your swimsuit and head to the pool – or rather pools in the case of Iron Mountain Hot Springs. In addition to a family pool with an elevated jetted spa, there are 16 mineral-rich soaking pools, varying in temperature from 98° to 108°F. Wearing next to nothing outdoors when the mercury plummets might seem counter-intuitive, but the benefits of a winter dip far outweigh the short distance from the bathhouse to the soaking pool of your choice.

Here are a few reasons we recommend giving winter soaking at Iron Mountain Hot Springs a try:

  1. Off-season rates. Admission prices drop during the off-season which is from Nov. through mid-May. Instead of $25, winter rates are just $20 for adults to enjoy the springs all day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Lower rates also apply to kids’ admission and off-season passes.
  2. Sunny days. Even though it might be frigid, it’s highly likely the sun will be shining in a bright blue sky. Colorado is famous for its 300 days of sunshine and by exposing some skin, you can get a healthy dose of Vitamin D while you soak.
  3. Fewer people. Relax in relative solitude. Did we mention it’s off-season? With few exceptions Iron Mountain Hot Springs is delightfully quiet this time of year.
  4. Heated walkways. We promise your tootsies won’t get frostbite while you hop from pool to pool. Our walkways are heated to prevent snow from sticking and ice from forming. For an added layer of protection against the elements bring along a cozy robe and sandals from home. Hang your robe on the towel holders located near each pool for easy accessibility.
  5. Mineral goodness. The geothermal springs at Iron Mountain contain 14 dissolved minerals, all of which have health and healing benefits. You can learn more about them here, or just immerse yourself in the water and know you’re giving your whole body a wellness treat.
  6. Après anything. After skiing or after dinner, nothing beats a soothing soak before bedtime. Enjoy a pre-made cocktail, responsibly of course, from the Sopris Café and watch the winter sky or see the moonrise from the comfort of your favorite soaking pool. By the end of the evening, your body will be warm, relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep.

To chase the chills away, visit Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs.

Treating ourselves to a seriously delicious burrito breakfast at @beardenaspen and saying our goodbyes before Dr. Nikki flys off ... again. Wish she could pack me in her suitcase but there’s only room for flip flops and bikinis in there. Save a lounge chair in the sun for me. You never know when I’ll show up on your doorstep. Follow @drnicolatalkshealth to keep track of her adventures.
