Building Synergy in Our Community

Our mission at Aspen Real Life is to support our community by promoting and growing ideas, individuals and businesses. What does that look like?

At our last Aspen Business Connect event, “Women Empowering Women”, the owner of Pete’s Ponies, a local home organizer, concierge and personal shopper, was so thrilled with the connections she made at our event that she approached us all inspired, saying that she wanted to “give back” in the best possible way. It put a big smile on our faces, as this is our intent – to get the community mindset on giving, sharing and collaborating.

Underwriting Opportunities on Aspen Real Life

As we reach out to all the non-profits in our valley, we recently had been conversing with The Aspen Hope Center, a local mental health organization providing suicide crisis intervention in our valley. In the conversation they expressed their desire to have an ad on our site, but alas had not planned for it in their 2018 budget.  We offered the owner of Pete’s Ponies the opportunity to underwrite the ad for the Aspen Hope Center and give them the exposure that they needed, and take a tax write-off for her own business.

[su_box title=”The Aspen Hope Center”]Our mission is to extend a beacon of hope to those in emotional crisis and offer a continuum of comprehensive care while steadfastly working to decrease the stigma of mental illness through expert clinical care, public education, community collaboration and outreach.[/su_box]

September is Suicide Awareness month and The Aspen Hope Center informed us of the shocking reality that Pitkin County averages 4 suicides per year, and that during the off-season about 80% of admissions at Aspen Valley Hospital are related to suicide attempts.

Pete’s Ponies has a “win” – she made valuable connections and is now paying it forward. The Hope Center “wins” – they now will have an ad on the blog with a direct link to their website increasing their visibility online and amplifying their message that help is nearby. As a community, we all “win” if we have an off-season with reduced suicide attempts.

Helping Others

We have also been working with our friends over at WindWalkers who requested for us to announce their upcoming “Dancing with Horses” production on September 22nd, an event that was changed from July to September due to the Lake Christine Fire. We relayed this message to our friend, Veronika Miller, Owner of Midland Clothing. Veronika shows reining horse in competitions and has held horses near and dear to her heart since childhood, and she jumped on this option to become an underwriter for advertising “Dancing with Horses” through our media outlets.

[su_box title=”Dancing with Horses”]Dancing with Horses is WindWalkers’ staged production taking place at The Wheeler Opera House on September 22nd. There will be three choreographed dance pieces revealing the dance that occurs between horse and rider using local dancers and the families and children at WindWalkers.[/su_box]

It fills our souls to know that we are able to connect people together and create a greater synergy in our valley. There are so many of us who want to help, but are at a loss as to the best way to do that. Now you have us to help you to choose a way that works within your means and desires. Treating ourselves to a seriously delicious burrito breakfast at @beardenaspen and saying our goodbyes before Dr. Nikki flys off ... again. Wish she could pack me in her suitcase but there’s only room for flip flops and bikinis in there. Save a lounge chair in the sun for me. You never know when I’ll show up on your doorstep. Follow @drnicolatalkshealth to keep track of her adventures.
