Octoberfest at Glenwood Caverns Provides Fall Fun for Everyone

Autumn in the Rockies is a thing of beauty, splendor and color, highlighted by golden aspen, purple willows, orange scrub oak and green pines all standing prominently against azure skies. Summer crowds are gone and the warmth of Indian summer bathes the landscape, making it the perfect time to pursue the activities we love.

It’s also time for Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park to host its annual Octoberfest, from October 1 through 28, when the park offers an array of special activities, food and music to celebrate autumn.

It all starts with a spectacular ride on our tram to the top of Iron Mountain with stunning panoramas of the mountains and the river valleys below.  At the top, you’ll find the park dressed up for this seasonal dance, decked out with all the trappings of this special time of year.

It’s a wonderful experience for families, with plenty of daily activities including a pumpkin patch—just $3 per pumpkin—straw bales to play on, fall photo opportunities, special handmade fudge and fudge-covered apples. Of course, no Octoberfest is complete without traditional beers and foods like brats with sauerkraut, pretzels and cider for the kids.

There’s always more to choose from at the Lookout Grille. You can enjoy great grilled foods, salads, sandwiches and refreshments. There’s also a full bar, serving beer and wine plus a robust Bloody Mary bar to enjoy while taking in stunning vistas of the surrounding colors.

There’s even more fun on Saturdays from noon – 6 p.m. when the park offers tractor-drawn hayrides and a plethora of kids’ activities and entertainment like face painting, Halloween/harvest-themed games to play and pumpkin decorating.  New this year will be a scavenger hunt for prizes, including a child’s Annual Thrill Pass.

On Sat., Oct. 13, and Sat., Oct. 20, from noon to 4 p.m., you can enjoy classic Octoberfest music from local oompah band Alpine Echo. Their traditional European sound will light up your lederhosen and get your polka in the groove.  It’s a good thing that Octoberfest beer will be available to refresh you.

And if that’s not enough…most of Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s rides and family attractions – including the award-winning Haunted Mine Drop – will be still be available to thrill and excite.  The best part? It’s all included with the Funday Pass, which includes the tram ride and unlimited turns on all open rides and all Octoberfest Activities.

Octoberfest…just one reason why any local will tell you that summer rocks, but in the high country, autumn is where it’s at.  Learn more about Glenwood Caverns and Octoberfest online.
