Garland & Friends is a toe-tapping Blues Rock band that covers musicians from Albert King to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with originals by Burton and Nussmeier.
Local Artist Showcase Chris Roberts
For Texas native Chris Roberts, country music is as important to his life as the Rocky Mountains where he now makes his home as a hat maker. Roberts’ unique blend of Americana is influenced by Waylon Jennings and has become a must-hear for those who keep country, blues, and folk close to their hearts.
“Most folks call my style Americana or outlaw country, but I really don’t like labels,” says Roberts. “My music just affects people with the way they’re feeling at the time, whether a sad song that they can grab onto, or a feel good tune that helps their day be a little more fun and gets them moving and grooving.”
Before settling in Colorado to open Aspen Hatter in 2015, Roberts lived on Texas ranches and in the cowboy country of Jackson, Wyoming. He brings a deep strain of authenticity to both his custom hat making and songwriting and aims to be as truthful as possible with both. Roberts likes to play guitar at his shop where folks have come to believe in his music and have pushed to get others to hear it. A favorite is “Cracks in the Sidewalk”.
According to Chris Roberts, “‘Cracks in the Sidewalk’ is a heavy song, but I tried using a fun approach. It’s a life song for me since I’ve been told that I have OCD, but I’m just making fun of it. You can call it whatever you want but it’s just me. Maybe I’m weird, but we’re all weird in our own way, so I’m stepping over all the cracks in life, but it’s all good. It’s all good.”
Chris Roberts has spent the last year in the studio recording songs for his first album which is currently untitled. It will include the single “Six Months Too Long” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKX8wLEIjuc. His genuine, down-home songs represent the next generation of storytelling and are filled with hooks that stick in your head, making Chris Roberts the new, must-hear voice of Americana music.
