Aspen, CO (January 15, 2019) – The 22nd Winter Words series continues January 29 at Paepcke Auditorium with New York Times best-selling author Curtis Sittenfeld and novelist and journalist Emily Jeanne Miller. The two, who are longtime friends and among each other’s first readers, will discuss their work and the writing life with Adrienne Brodeur, executive director of Aspen Words.

Sittenfeld, a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, is the author of five novels: “Prep,” “The Man of My Dreams,” “American Wife,” “Sisterland” and “Eligible.” Her debut short-story collection, “You Think It, I’ll Say It,” released in 2018, was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, NPR and The San Francisco Chronicle, among media outlets. Sittenfeld’s books have been optioned for film and TV and translated into 30 languages.

Miller is the author of the novels “The News from the End of the World” and “Brand New Human Being.” A former Aspen Words Writer in Residence, she has spent time working as a journalist in the West, covering environmental topics ranging from Indian casinos to grizzly bears. Miller earned a master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Montana and an MFA in fiction from the University of Florida.

Three Winter Words events will follow the Sittenfeld + Miller talk: Pulitzer Prize winner Colson Whitehead (February 12), national humanities medal recipient Elaine Pagels and New York Times best-selling author Kate Bowler (February 26) and New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer (March 12). The series kicked off with renowned rock climber and memoirist Tommy Caldwell, before a sold-out crowd on January 8.
