Cate Tallmadge Art Talk at the Basalt Regional Library
March 9 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC-6
The Art Base presents artist Cate Tallmadge for a reception and talk at the Basalt Regional Library during Basalt’s 2nd Fridays Artwalk on Friday, March 9, from 5–6pm, with an art talk taking place at 5:15pm. Check out Tallmadge’s “Ski Bunnies” and enjoy refreshments at the library on your way to the Art Base’s Body of Work exhibition opening!
Born and raised in Carbondale, Colorado, Catherine Tallmadge moved to Chicago in the early 2000s and enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a BFA in Fiber and Material Studies. She spent seven years working as a picture framer in Chicago before moving back to Carbondale and joining the team of custom framers at Main Street Gallery and The Framer. In 2014, she became one of Main Street Gallery’s featured artists.
Tallmadge’s “Ski Bunnies” explore skiing fashion history decade by decade. “Each decade has been thoroughly researched and is as authentic as I could make it,” Tallmadge describes. “You’ll notice changes in the clothes, skis, boots and poles as the decades progress. I found inspiration in vintage photographs and ski posters, the clothing archives from the Victoria and Albert Museum and a multitude of skiing history websites. In these pieces I have discovered that I created more than just paintings but a body of work that can evoke happy memories and even joy for the viewer.
Cate Tallmadge’s work will be on view in the Basalt Regional Library art display case March 1-30, 2018. The Art Base works in collaboration with the library to curate monthly exhibitions featuring local artists.
