High in the Alpine
July 26, 2017 @ 4:00 am - 8:00 am UTC-6Free – $10.00
Cushion plants, krummholz, horned larks, pikas… Come explore the alpine tundra on top of Independence Pass with the Forest Conservancy Master Naturalists Francine Liebel and Carol Kurt! This 4-hour outing will open your senses to the new ways of seeing this seemingly monotonous landscape and will give you a renewed appreciation for the incredible plants and animals that live there.
The class meets at the top of the pass, right by the Independence Pass sign at 10am. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, plenty of layers as weather at 12,000 feet can rapidly change. Bring your own lunch or snacks and plenty of water to get you through the class. This field exploration will include some elevation gain but, with often stops and plant discussions, this hike is easy and accessible to all.
