Mapping Consciousness with Francis Bennett
A Two Day Event at the Aspen Chapel
Saturday, October 21, 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Sunday, October 22, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Thomas Keating explains: “Francis Bennett is a highly recommended and very interesting speaker with deep insight.”
Using the 10 Ox herding pictures and the Ascent to Mount Carmel, Francis will examine the similarities and differences between these two maps of consciousness. Maps are certainly important when one is on a complicated journey, but God cannot be made to conform to our maps. We will see how these two maps of the path to discovering who we are represent somewhat different perspectives that can both be valid and helpful at different points in our journey.

About Francis:
Francis Bennett was a Roman Catholic, Trappist monastic for a number of years in the 80s and 90s, lived in two monasteries of the Trappist Order in the US and was also a member of an urban, contemplative monastic community in the 2000s that was originally founded in Paris, France in 1975. She has lived in France at several monasteries, including Saint Gervais et Protais in Paris, at Mont Saint Michel along the coast of the English Channel and in Canada at a small monastic community in Montreal Quebec. She received a five and a half year monastic/spiritual formation with the Trappists before making vows as a monk at Gethsemani Abbey in 1982. She graduated from the Pontifical College Josephinum with a BA in Philosophy and completed a two year residency in Clinical Pastoral Education with Ohio Health Hospital System in Columbus, Ohio. She has worked in ministry in the area of pastoral Care in the hospice movement, as a hospital chaplain and in pastoral care of the sick and dying in parish settings. Francis has recently come out as transgender and is on her own journey of discovery in the experience of gender transition.
