The Manaslu Balcony: Trekking a New Route in Nepal
This fall, Catherine and her Nepali agent Ashok organized a trek following an original route, the Manaslu Balcony Trek. It is located north of the town of Gorkha, which was the epicenter of the 2015 earthquake. Ashok had created this trek in order to bring tourism in a new, less traveled yet beautiful area, and also to support the local population. Catherine was also joined by her former guide during a trip in 2010, Ketam, who led a team of 12 and ensured an amazing experience for the group.
The trek was nine days long and climbed up to 14,000 feet. This expedition offered superb immersion in traditional Nepali culture, as well as many ups and downs, villages, terraces, forests, and ridges with spectacular views, especially on Manaslu, Buddha Himal, and Ganesh Himal. Local people, mostly Gurung, were very welcoming. The trek ended in Ketam’s village, a very special moment.
Join Catherine as she tells the story of this unique Nepali adventure.
Tea, donated by Two Leaves and a Bud Tea Company, beer, donated by Aspen Brewing Company, and Paradise Bakery cookies will be offered during lecture.
