Tai Chi Class for Movement Disorders
June 18 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm UTC-6
Unlike most sports or exercises, Tai Chi does not rely on strength, force, or speed which makes it ideal for everyone whether young or old, strong or weak. Even a small amount of practice can bring benefits in health and fitness enabling the mind and body to relax and help cope with the challenges of living with tremor or other movement disorders. Because Tai Chi enhances balance and body awareness, it may significantly reduce the risk of falls and improve posture.
Researchers from Harvard Medical School, The National Tremor Foundation, Oregon Research Institute, and MSFocus.org have found that patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease have received great benefit from practicing Tai Chi including:
• Improved strength and balance
• Slower rates of decline in overall motor control
• Increased energy and mood
• Decreased stress, anxiety and depression
Due to the support of generous donors, these classes will be offered at no cost to patients with movement disorders.
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Day: Mondays and Wednesdays
Location: Mindful Movement Studio at the Calaway•Young Cancer Center.
