The Great American Solar Eclipse

August 21, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm UTC-6

This is your big chance to see a near-total solar eclipse! The Great American Eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21st. While the eclipse will not be total in Aspen, it will be 92% occluded, so it will be noticeably darker! Join Aspen Science Center and Pitkin County Library as we gather to observe and celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event — it is the first time in 99 years that a total eclipse has traversed the United States of America from coast to coast. And, this eclipse will ONLY be visible in totality in the United States. We’ll be gathering in Galena Plaze next to the library.

In Aspen, the eclipse will begin at 10:20 am, peak at 11:43 am, and end at 1:11 pm. The sun will be 92% occluded at the peak of the eclipse.

Join us from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm for eclipse viewing with telescopes, pinhole cameras, demonstrations and simulations about eclipses, fun games for the kids, and more! Make your own solar eclipse viewer!
