FirstBank is helping the Roaring Fork Valley celebrate the return of spring with “The Shot Heard ‘Round the Valley” paper airplane contest. Hosted at the bank’s Carbondale branch (791 HWY 133, Carbondale) from April 1-10, contestants can enter for a chance to win a Commencal Meta TR 29 mountain bike or an Absolut dirt jumper, donated by Crown Mountain Bike Park. Winners will be randomly selected and announced on April 10.

Participants will be able to craft an airplane using only an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper. All contestants who hit the Shot Heard ‘Round the Valley will be entered into a small pool to win a brand new Commencal bike. If no contestant hits the shot, all contestants will be entered into the drawing. Winners will have the chance to choose between a Commencal Meta TR 29 or a Commencal Absolut dirt jumper. If contestants want to use the credit to pay for an upgrade, they may do that as well.

“FirstBank is excited to help bring this opportunity to our friends and neighbors in the Roaring Fork Valley, and we look forward to seeing some hopeful aviators stop by the branch,” said Dave Portman, FirstBank’s Roaring Fork Valley President. “We’re lucky to have one of the nation’s premier bike parks in our own backyard, and thanks to the generous prizes donated by Crown Mountain Bike Park, two lucky winners will get to enjoy it on their new bikes.”

Paper will be provided at the branch, and no modifiers such as tape, paper clips, etc. are allowed. Each plane should also include the maker’s name, phone number and email address, which will serve as official entry into the raffle.

“We just built the best bike park in the state, and now we are teaming up with FirstBank to give away two Commencal bikes on April 10,” said Nate Grinzinger, Parks Manager and Bike Park Director of Crown Mountain Bike Park. “I have been practicing my paper airplane throwing in the living room and am now hitting the shot in the dark, blindfolded, so you better get to FirstBank as soon as you can to make your shot.”

Crown Mountain Bike Park was built to serve all ages and abilities and will launch its bike private lesson school this year. The bike park was lauded as “a sizable biketopia unlike any other in the state” by the Aspen Daily News. FirstBank is an Official Sponsor of the park with a $20,000 investment.

Poet and artist Precious Okoyomon transformed the Aspen Art Museum rooftop, installing a mixture of sculpture and organic matter to create a garden based on themes of pleasure, abundance, and desire. Okoyomon will be in residence in Aspen on multiple occasions, developing and transforming the project over its entire duration, making it a live and responsive commission that will literally grow and replenish over time.Okoyomon will also introduce a series of collaborations with musicians to create organic soundtracks for the garden that will follow the changing seasons. Each musician will use a combination of external samples and sounds recorded from within the garden to compose an individual response to it. Visitors will be encouraged to move throughout the garden while respecting protocol for social distancing to experience these multisensory (and in part, edible) elements. The exhibition is curated by AAM Curator at Large Claude Adjil.#aspenartmuseum#openingreception#artmatters#aspenevents#aspenartmuseum ...

Courtney Sanders, Founder of The Bipolar Design will be there tonight at Aspen Strong: Promoting Mental Health in the Roaring Fork Valley Time to Talk.Bipolar Divine provides a platform of resources for those who suffer from bipolar disorder. Courtney has experienced all aspects of the spectrum and when she was so hypo manic that she forgot what language she spoke, or so depressed that she couldn’t walk her dog, there weren’t resources or options outside of the classic arsenal of psychiatric drugs that are so commonly prescribed in the U.S. Courtney spent years on medications. Some made her hair fall out, some made her gain weight, some lose weight. Some destroyed the biome of her stomach, but all of them compromised the equilibrium of her mind. She would spend the better part of ten years carrying shame and trying to be perfect within the bipolar experience— which only exacerbated her symptoms. Courtney went off her meds and tried self-medicating.#timetotalk#supportingmentalhealth#aspenstrong ...
