JAZZ JOINTS ARE HERE TO STAY AND IT’S ALL ABOUT COMMUNITY

Jazz joints come and jazz joints go, but in Aspen they are here to stay. In June the Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) Experience, featured a wonderful info-music family brunch at the Patron tent with Jon Batiste and Lisa Fischer. The intention – to inform audiences, because an educated audience is an engaged audience. New this season, the ‘meet and greet’ with artists and musicians who have performed in grand uptown theaters and big festival stages, is an inspiring way to deeply connect listeners with artists and bring a new generation of listeners into the fold.

Jon Batiste captured the essence of music right at the outset by saying, “There is something mysterious about the process of making music.” It is the storytelling of this very magic that brings audiences back time and again to the jazz experience. Both artists explored the DNA of Jazz in America from its roots in slave songs that spoke of overcoming hardship, to its current incarnation.

They described jazz as an expression of pain in search of healing in an unseen world. Unarguably, Jazz is and has always been a barometer of culture. It lives in the streets and gives us a vocabulary for unearthing and reconnection. “Jazz ain’t never going to die,” said Jon Batiste. “Something about culture is undeniable.” Lisa Fischer, Grammy winning singer extraordinary whose music is an organic gumbo of progressive rock, psychedelic soul, and African, Middle Eastern, Caribbean rhythms and classical influences, agrees. “Music is a thread that sews us up and connects us all together,” she says. An utter treat, the brunch made the June JAS Experience all about community and inspiring a new generation of aficionados.

[su_box title=”Be a Patron VIP”]PATRON (VIP) TICKETS JAS Patron Passes get you in on the inside track and provide you with outstanding Patron privileges.  Patron Passes also help JAS fulfill its mission to bring world-class renowned and emerging artists to its stages.  [/su_box]

With the addition of ‘meet and greet’ events, music lovers looking to tap their toes and keep jazz relevant, don’t have to look further than Jas Café venues. Right at our doorstep, we can savor the chance to hear live music, and engage with musicians who will answer questions and add to our knowledge and enjoyment of jazz and related forms of music.

And this is important because from way back when, music has been at the vanguard of change, not just making sense of the times, but giving it a voice. Jazz Aspen, the JAS Cafè and the blog Listen Up! are keeping this tradition alive through expanding music education from the classroom to the community, inspiring knowledge in students of all ages and building a future audience.

The JAS Café features intimate performances downstairs at the Little Nell, the Cooking School of Aspen and  upstairs at the Aspen Art Museum, and the best part is that the tickets are super affordable with standing room only going for only $25 per person 48 hours in advance or in case of an advanced sell-out.  https://www.axs.com/jasaspen or call 970.920.4996 to purchase tickets.
