Michaela Carpenter: Michaela grew up in Manhattan before moving to Aspen for high school. After studying design in London she returned to Aspen to open a dual concept space which ultimately led to the co-creation of both Local Coffee House and Here House. Local has won ‘Best Coffee Shop’ each year since its inception and has twice been nominated as ‘Best Place to Work.’ From the community-focused success of Local and Here House, she and her mama Candice have launched a design firm ‘ Ora’ specializing in social + interior design; creating and activating spaces that enliven us both as an individual and as a tribe. Michaela is married to a true valley local, Kevin Newland, a carpenter with his own design + build company ‘Labor’, and together they have a dog, Hoxton, and a young son, Wilder. Wilder will be starting at Waldorf in 2022; he loves trucks and any outside activity.

Candice Carpenter Olson: Candice graduated from Stanford in 1975 and began her career as a mountaineering instructor, first arriving in the Aspen valley in the early 70s. When Candice applied to graduate school, her leadership roles on extreme wilderness expeditions helped secure a place at Harvard Business School. A corporate marketing career followed at businesses like AOL and Time Warner. In 2000, Candice became one of the first women to lead an IPO as one of the founders of iVillage.com. In 2015 she co-founded and led Fullbridge with her soul-mate-husband, Peter. Today, she’s an active member of the Aspen Community, co-founded Local and Here House, and is a principal designer in ‘Ora’ – the design firm she co-leads with her daughter Michaela. Candice married Peter in 2001 and boasts a band of 7 children between them; they both became full-time Aspen residents in 2018. Candice’s lifelong obsession is building community and creating beauty.
