Leaf People is plant-based skincare for modern life. Founded by medical herbalist Julie Levin in 2003, the brand was inspired by Julie’s deep connection to the natural environment. From growing up in rural Alaska and learning how to use plants for wilderness survival, learning cross-cultural herbal traditions during her extensive travels abroad, studying under notable master herbalists in the Andes, formally studying botanical medicine in Colorado, and integrating Buddhist medicine-making processes into the production of skincare, Leaf People is a culmination of Julie’s life experiences. Leaf People products marry botanical science with western medical herbalism, effectively providing the skin with exactly what it needs, naturally. From cleansing to treatment, each product features ingredients that are certified organic, ethically wild-harvested, certified herbicide/pesticide-free, gluten-free, and include vegan options. The extensive line includes daily facial and body care products, a clinical collection for those 35 and older, and a men’s line. All products are packaged in a mix of recyclable and compostable materials printed with vegetable and water-based inks. What brought us to this valley:
In my 20’s, I dreamt of being part of a rural community that still had its pulse on the world. Aspen was the perfect fit. I grew up in a small fishing village on the Alaskan coast, so I love the intimacy of a small town but also desire the mental and social stimulation of a more cosmopolitan environment. A few years after finishing college, I moved here to start my new life. Since arriving in the valley almost 30 years ago, I have studied medical herbalism locally in Colorado and across the globe (South America, Africa, Hong Kong, and Australia) along with other healing art modalities. Through this diverse, decades-long, plant-based journey, Leaf People Skin Care was born.
