The Inaugural Year of Rare Aspen

Rare Aspen curated collections of antiques, fine art and jewelry benefitting AEF, Mountain Rescue and Aspen Hope Center

The Aspen Show Group and The Antiques Council is currently presenting the inaugural year of Rare Aspen, a new annual show showcasing carefully curated collections of antiques, fine art, and jewelry, benefitting AEF, Mountain Rescue and Aspen Hope Center.

Rare Aspen Features Prominent Sellers of Antique Jewelry, Art and Objets D’art

Happening now through July14th, Rare Aspen features a hand selection of the most prominent sellers of antique jewelry, art and objets d’art. I met a few of the sellers yesterday in the Ice Garden, and they brought me into their world of consulting, educating me on all the treasures that my eyes fell upon. In the marketing for Rare Aspen they mention that the show is, “something so unique and precious that it simply cannot be imagined, only experienced.” I was there for the experience, and boy was I getting it.

My two sisters and I grew up in Massachusetts in a white house with bluebird blue shutters and a white picket fence. It was a house filled with antiques collected from my mother’s mentors, Nick & Marie Bonadies, renown antique and art dealers in New England. In addition to her British 19th century Fairy Art collection with; Rackham, Doyle, Dulac and Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, my mother, originally from Leicestershire, England, also collected Tiffany dragonfly lamps, sculptures and many other objets d’art. Our house filled the imagination …. it’s no wonder I’m such a dreamer.

Roberto Freitas of Roberto Freitas American Antiques & Decorative Arts

Walking in to the Ice Garden I met Roberto Freitas of Roberto Freitas American Antiques & Decorative Arts, and there began my education as he walked me around his Period 18th and 19th century American furniture and decorative arts, including a Tiffany lamp with dragonflies, red eyes cascading off the glass shade, and a stacked leather bound book tantalus, French, late 19th century, opened to a fitted interior with a gilt decorated decanter with stopper, and five matching glasses banded in gold.

Joe Pacetti Precious Jewels

Feeling a magnetic pull towards Joe Pacetti, I gravitated towards the independent, internationally acclaimed jeweler and certified gemologist. Pacetti has over 31 years of experience traveling worldwide, purchasing the finest gems and jewelry designs. Draping me in carats upon carats of precious jewels, from contemporary to old world classic designs by the likes of Buccellati, Bvlgari and Cartier, the thought did occur to me that I might want to break out my beautiful pieces and dress up a little more. A gal could get used to this.

Jim Gillis, Global Sales for M.S. Rau Antiques

Moving on I met Jim Gillis, Global Sales for M.S. Rau Antiques, and there I stayed for quite some time chatting about the incredible world of art collecting and selling. M.S. Rau has acquired some of the finest selections of objets d’art in the world, with many pieces boasting important, often royal, provenance, including famous makers such as; Fabergé, Bruguier, Cartier and Baccarat, pieces crafted of and adorned with the finest materials such as gold, blue john, lapis, jade, rare gemstones, etc.. There was also a Van Gogh, Churchill, Picasso and a Frères Rochat Petit Swiss Singing Bird Box, made with real hummingbird wings.

I felt remorse that my mother was not with me to meet these collectors and sink into a world that she feels most at home with, but thankfully, we will be in Nantucket together for the next exhibit in August, and hopefully I’ll be able to give you the perspective from someone who knows well the rarities to be discovered.

We are so fortunate to have such rare and significant collectors sharing their pieces with us here in Aspen, RARE Aspen is a must attend event!

Along with vendors sales, we will be incorporating a program of short presentations and informative booth chats intended to educate; professionals from the design world will share their vision where old meets new in a festive and philanthropic atmosphere. This year all proceeds from the show will be going to three beloved local charities: Aspen Hope Center, Mountain Rescue Aspen, and the Aspen Education Foundation.

Aspen Show Group contributes all of its net profits from the show to Aspen Education Foundation, Mountain Rescue and Aspen Hope Center.
