11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Audi Ski Challenge
Aspen Mountain, NASTAR Course.  The Audi Ski Challenge is a ski racing competition that brings together local ski racing fans in support of Audi and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. Racers compete in a dual slalom and the top two winners will win an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime trip to race with the U.S. Ski Team at the U.S. Alpine Championships in Squaw Valley.  The race is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.
Online registration open until Thursday, January 10, 2013. On-site registration will be at the Gondola Plaza on Friday, January 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 12 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Each winner will be allowed to bring one guest to the U.S. Alpine Championships.  Audi and the U.S. Ski Team will award the following prizes to the top two winners from Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek, and Squaw Valley:

  • Official 2012/13 Ski Team Jacket
  • Three night lodging at the U.S. Alpine Championships (March 20-24, 2013)
  • VIP experience provided by the U.S. Ski Team
    o VIP pass-Three days of skiing, access to all VIP functions

Aspen Cross Country Center.   Cross Country Ski with your family from bonfire to bonfire where food and drinks are provided by many of Aspen’s Restaurants. Wheeler Opera House.   With the upcoming release of her first album, Bella Betts on mandolin, guitar, and vocals tells her story vividly through a fun mixture of bluegrass/folk, contemporary and original music. And when ace Aspen Times arts editor comes calling and says he’s just seen Bella performing with Punch Brothers phenom Chris Thile (and she’s holding her own), then we know she’s the real thing. Joining Bella for her Wheeler debut are The Little Stars featuring Leslie Myers on bass, Greg Schochet on guitar/mandolin, and Dusty Rider on clawhammer and five string banjo. 7:00 p.m.  Aspen Valley Hospital’s Hockey for Health
Aspen Ice Garden.    An exhibition hockey game featuring Team AVH and the Mother Puckers.  
“Hockey for Health” may seem like an oxymoron – after all, hockey is a sport fraught with injury.  But Aspen Valley Hospital (AVH) happens to have a pretty good group of hockey players and is teaming up with the Aspen Mother Puckers to promote safety, injury prevention, and helmet use for all.  There is no charge for admission to the exhibition game, but a suggested donation is $10 per person which also gets you a ticket for dinner including chili, salad, dessert, and lemonade prepared by AVH’s Castle Creek Café.  Contributions will be used for the hospital’s Injury Prevention Program and “Think First” injury prevention education.  Tips about safety and helmet use for all sports, helmet fittings, and drawings for helmet give-aways will also take place during the event.  Co-sponsors of the event include:  Encore Electric, Falcon Plumbing, Gallegos Masonry, Haselden Construction, HEYL Construction, MTECH, and Pioneer Steel.

7:00 p.m.  The Drowsy Chaperone
Aspen District Theatre.  A Theatre Aspen Teen Conservatory Production.  A die-hard musical theatre fan plays his favorite cast album on his record player and the musical springs to life in his living room.
