Jillian's Top Calendar Picks| July 8–12
One of the questions I get asked most is, "What's happening this week?" Rather than overwhelm you with hundreds of events, here are the ones I'd put on my calendar.

Wednesday: Basalt Concert Series & Roaring Fork Conservancy Benefit
A Night for the Rivers - Roaring Fork Conservancy celebrates a second year at a stunning location on the Roaring Fork River for an unforgettable evening of celebration, connection, and community! More details to come. We look forward to celebrating the rivers that connect our Roaring Fork Watershed!
Summer in Basalt is hard to beat. Head to Basalt River Park for an evening with David Mayfield Parade (bluegrass) and Tommy the Animal (rock & roll). Bring a blanket, grab dinner from Taqueria el Yaqui or Windy City Eats, and enjoy one of the valley's best free summer traditions.
Thursday: Two Great Music Options
If you're looking for a mountain concert, North Mississippi Allstars take the stage on Fanny Hill for the Snowmass Free Concert Series.
Or, if jazz and world music are more your style, don't miss Maruja Limón at the Paul JAS Center. This all-female sextet from Barcelona blends flamenco, Latin rhythms, and contemporary pop into what promises to be an unforgettable performance.
Friday: Books, Jazz…or Diplo?
Friday offers something for everyone.
The Aspen Words Book Ball welcomes bestselling author Jonathan Franzen to Aspen Meadows for one of the literary highlights of the summer.
For a more intimate evening, Bria Skonberg's Supper Club at the Paul JAS Center pairs dinner with world-class jazz.
Or, if dancing is more your speed, Diplo takes over Belly Up Aspen for what will undoubtedly be one of the hottest tickets of the weekend.
Friday Afternoon: Challenge Aspen
One event that deserves a special mention is Rock This Country, presented by Challenge Aspen at TACAW. This inspiring performance celebrates the talents of performers with disabilities and is always one of the most heartwarming events of the summer.
Saturday
Start your morning wandering the Aspen Saturday Market, one of my favorite weekly rituals for fresh flowers, local produce, artisan foods, and people-watching.
Then choose your evening:
- Futurebirds at Belly Up Aspen
- Andrew Duhon at TACAW
- Or, if you're involved in local theater, Thunder River Theatre's season auditions.
Sunday
Wrap up the weekend with Bluegrass Sundays featuring Shaky Hand String Band atop Aspen Mountain. Ride the gondola, have lunch with a view, and enjoy live music at 11,000 feet.
As always, bookmark our calendar so you don't miss anything, and I'll see you ut & about!
Keeping my finger on the pulse of the Roaring Fork Valley so you don't have to.
