Our Favorite Independently Owned Boutiques and Products in the Roaring Fork Valley
Here's our guide to the boutiques and brands we love, from Aspen all the way down valley.
Duchess and the Dude — Aspen
Kimberly Jarrell’s fashion-forward boutique carries great denim, dresses, vintage rock tees, footwear, and jewelry, many of them locally designed. It's one of those places where you walk in for one thing and leave with three because it’s so much more affordable than anything else going in Aspen. Kimberly loves rock & roll and she’s got the cool attitude to support that. She will tell you if what you’re trying on looks good or not. Her coolness is transferred to every piece she purchases for her store. If you want to walk in feeling like a city girl and walk out looking like a cool local, Duchess and the Dude is your place to shop. Located upstairs next to Betula and Salon Tullio.
Joy & Wylde Art Gallery - Redstone
Tucked within the storied Redstone Historic District, Joy & Wylde is one of those places that stops you in your tracks the moment you walk in. Part boutique, part gallery, part café, it's a space where exceptional handcrafted goods, original fine art, and artisanal flavors come together in a way that feels completely intentional and completely unhurried.
The shop was born from a deep belief that beautiful, meaningful objects have the power to transform everyday life, and that philosophy shows in every corner. As a family-owned business rooted in Redstone, Joy & Wylde partners with independent artists and makers to bring in handmade lifestyle goods, original jewelry, and fine art, each piece chosen for its integrity and artistry rather than its price tag or trend cycle.
When you're ready to slow down, the Wylde Café is there for it. Expertly crafted beverages and artisanal provisions in a setting as carefully considered as the goods on the shelves. Stop in after a morning hike along the Crystal River or an afternoon wandering Redstone's galleries and historic landmarks, and let it be your moment of ease in the mountains.
Redstone is one of the most magical and undervisited corners of our valley, and Joy & Wylde is reason enough to make the drive. Located on Redstone Castle Drive.
Maison Collective — Basalt
Zoe Calahan opened Maison Collective with one simple rule: if it doesn't tell a story, we don't sell it. The shop blends worldly finds with full-service interior design consultation, and Zoe wants you to walk in and feel like you've walked into your favorite living room, not a retail shop. From vases and pillows to statement pieces and personalized design guidance, Maison Collective brings something genuinely different to Basalt's shopping scene. This is the kind of place you come in for one thing and leave with a whole new vision for your home.
Maybell & Co. - Basalt
Bryan Bennett is the founder and sole artisan of Wild West Maybell & Company, a custom leathercraft business based in Maybell / Basalt, Colorado. He specializes in handmade, high-quality leather goods such as custom wallets, bifolds, and accessories crafted from premium materials.
If you are looking to purchase his custom leather goods, Bryan will be at the Basalt Farmer's Market on June 14th, 21st and 28th. Tell him we sent you and request a commissioned piece. You can browse his work on his website or contact him directly via his Wild West Maybell & Co. Aspen Business Connect Profile.
Misstyx — Aspen
Misstyx has been a cornerstone of the local retail scene in Aspen for over 28 years, specializing in fun women's apparel that you’ll want to pack your bag with on your next trip, demi-fine and fashion jewelry, handbags, hair accessories and great hats (not like everyone else’s), and gifts. Owner Jill Murphy has a genuine eye for pieces that work for real life in the mountains, whether you're headed to a gallery opening or a Sunday hike. Small but mighty is right — this shop punches well above its size. Located downstairs in the courtyard area along the Hyman Avenue walking mall.
Independent boutiques bring personality, and connection to a community. Through Misstyx in Aspen and Murphy Brown in Glenwood Springs we’ve built our businesses around personal service, thoughtfully curated collections and creating spaces where women feel comfortable and welcome. We love getting to know our customers and helping them find pieces that make them feel confident, comfortable, and uniquely themselves.

Murphy Brown Boutique — Glenwood Springs
In 2017, Jill opened Murphy Brown Boutique in Glenwood Springs, carrying all of her collections from Misstyx along with home goods and home gifts. It's a beautiful extension of what Jill has built, and a great reason to make a day of exploring Glenwood. Both stores reflect the same commitment to quality, community, and a personalized shopping experience that you simply don't get anywhere else.
Nido — Carbondale
Nido offers unique, handpicked pieces for women's and men's wardrobes and homes that are well-crafted and timeless, capturing the spirit of the Roaring Fork Valley. Located on Main Street in downtown Carbondale, Nido carries a curated collection of stylish women's and men's clothing, accessories, and gifts with a focus on ethical and sustainable brands. If you haven't been in lately, make it a stop — this is exactly the kind of shop the valley needs more of.
PE 101 — Aspen
A local favorite for women looking for elevated, wearable pieces with a modern edge. PE 101 brings in brands you won't find everywhere else in the valley, with a carefully edited point of view that feels current without being trendy.
Pitkin County Dry Goods — Aspen
For nearly five decades, Pitkin County Dry Goods has been essential to Aspen's fashion landscape, renowned for its contemporary designer apparel, accessories, and footwear collection. Catering to the sensibility of a sophisticated ski town, they offer an eclectic mix of creative boutique designers and wearable fashion basics. It's an Aspen institution, and one that has earned that title honestly.
LOCALLY-MADE PRODUCTS
Antedotum — Aspen/Snowmass
Antedotum is a female-founded, Hispanic-led skincare line created in Aspen, Colorado, inspired by nature and backed by science, made with Aspen Bark Extract. Founder Karina Perez Marconi built this brand after years at Chanel and a personal search for clean, effective skincare that actually works at altitude. The results speak for themselves, and the fact that it's rooted in this landscape makes it feel distinctly ours.

Honey - A Few Hives, A Lot of Heart: A Backyard Apiary
Randy and Diane Utz have about 15 beehives buzzing away on their Basalt property, and its grown into one of their favorite parts of life here. Randy is the one who suits up, veil and all, to check on the bees and pull frames - some so packed with bees and honeycomb you can barely see the wood underneath.
To keep their hives well-fed, they plant fields of buckwheat just for the bees. It's a fast, generous bloomer, and it gives them this deep, almost malty honey you won't find on a regular grocery shelf. They've also got a big garden of vegetables and flowers that doubles as extra forage for the bees.
One thing they're firm about: no insecticides, no herbicides, ever. It keeps things simple, and it means their honey stays completely natural, the way it should be. When harvest time rolls around, Randy and Diane do it all themselves - pulling frames, extracting, bottling - no big operation, just them. And instead of selling through stores, they sell directly to folks from the Valley who reach out wanting a taste of real, local honey. We can vouch for that! We were lucky to have been gifted three jars after Randy dressed us in an apiarist suit, and we were able to learn the complexities of the hives. We even saw the queen bee!
It's a small setup, but it's exactly the kind of small they like. Email nobobosfarm@gmail.com
Osmia — Carbondale
Founded by Dr. Sarah Villafranco and handcrafted in small batches in Carbondale, Osmia begins with an uncompromising belief to use only the highest quality ingredients, choosing the most beautiful, raw plant materials that are ethically sourced, many of which are USDA certified organic. Sarah left emergency medicine to build this brand, and that intention shows in every product. Osmia brings together chemistry, nature, and aromatherapy into a luxurious skincare experience. This is one of the valley's true homegrown success stories, and the fact that it's made right here makes it that much more special.
Homsted Apothecary — Glenwood Springs
Guided by Gandhi's words, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world," Homsted Apothecary is one of those rare shops that actually lives its values. Their goal is simple: provide the knowledge and supplies to live a life made better through higher quality, simpler, locally sourced, and handcrafted goods.
Walk in and you'll find a thoughtfully curated selection covering just about every corner of your life, tinctures, essential oils, bulk herbs, and body care products for your health; handcrafted pottery, quality linens, fermentation supplies, and cooking tools for your home; locally sourced honeys, spices, and canned goods for your pantry; and organic seeds, growing kits, starter plants, and handcrafted tools for your garden. They also carry natural and safe cleaning and body care products for those looking to simplify what they bring into their home.
What sets Homsted apart beyond the shelves is their commitment to education. They offer workshops and classes on everything from foraging and beekeeping to DIY medicine making, skincare making, canning, distilling, and sustainable gardening practices. It's the kind of place where you leave knowing more than when you walked in.
And perhaps most importantly, they are deeply committed to sustainable business practices, reducing waste, avoiding disposable goods, and prioritizing products and artisans who share those values. As they put it, they don't do it because it's easy or profitable, but because it's right. In a valley that cares about its land and its future, that means something.
Shopping local here isn't just a feel-good habit, it's how this community sustains itself. Every purchase at one of these shops goes back into the valley, to a local owner, a local team, a local family. That's worth something. That's worth a lot.
