Tamara de Lempicka’s Great Granddaughter

Last night, we heard Marisa de Lempicka tell stories about her great-grandmother, Tamara de Lempicka, told in M.S. Rau, a pop-up gallery in Aspen exhibiting estate fine art, antiques, and jewelry.

Marisa and I became friends four years ago when we were both building our businesses, and I’ve witnessed her work tirelessly to bring her Great-Grandmother back into the spotlight as a pioneering female artist who lived life with determination and on her terms.

As we listened to Marisa tell stories about Tamara amongst Degas’ Ukrainian Dancers, Le Carnaval Di Sage by Magritte, Buste D’Homme by Picasso, and so many other Classic artists, we were transported to another era.

Marisa’s journey is a testament to the strong lineage she comes from. A bright and fiercely independent woman, Marisa has paved her way, organizing international exhibits all over the world. This was the first time Marisa has shared her Great-Grandmother’s story in the U.S., and she’ll be back to speak in the gallery on August 1st.

Tamara de Lempicka, a Polish painter who worked in France and the United States, is renowned for her Art Deco portraits of aristocrats and the wealthy and her stylized paintings of nudes. She reinvented herself multiple times, rising from poverty to international fame in 1920s Paris, fleeing fascism, and relocating to the United States in 1940. In 2020, her work achieved a remarkable auction sale of over $21 million, the second highest ever for a female painter.

Tamara navigated a fine line between aristocracy and danger. Her story delves into themes of success, loss, seduction, fear, power, genius, and survival.

Marisa exemplifies the kind of individuals I invite to become members of Aspen Business Connect—established entrepreneurs who make a statement through their hard-earned work. Her dedication, resilience, and achievements are truly inspiring.
