Welcome to The Weekly Best. Every week I go through everything happening in Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt and Carbondale and tell you exactly what's worth your time. Bookmark the blog, because a new list drops every week.
The costumes are put away, the clocks have fallen back and opening day is just a few weeks out. This is the quiet stretch when the valley belongs to the locals, and this week is a good one to get out. A free film, a big comedy night, two fundraisers worth dressing up for and a Sunday night of folk rock. Here's what I'd put on your calendar.
Sunday, November 1: Be Like Blippi Tour
2 PM · Wheeler Opera House, Aspen
Parents, this one's for you (and the little ones). Blippi and Meekah bring the all-new Be Like Blippi Tour to the Wheeler, an interactive show packed with high-energy music that gets kids moving, playing and exploring. It's a perfect way to spend the extra hour you got back this morning. Tickets
Starting Monday, November 2: DJ Boot Camp
Paul JAS Center, Aspen · Grades 6–8
Got a middle schooler who's always behind the speaker? JAS Aspen Snowmass and TACAW are kicking off the fall session of DJ Boot Camp, a six-week after-school program led by local musician and educator Alex Eherenman. Beginner and intermediate students get hands-on time with the tools and techniques real DJs use. Details and sign-up
Wednesday, November 4: Indie Showcase: WILD INSIDE
7 PM · Aspen Film Isis Theatre · Free for Aspen Film members
Remember Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl who escaped the Central Park Zoo and became a citywide sensation? WILD INSIDE tells his story and asks big questions about freedom, captivity and what it means to be wild. Aspen Film's monthly Indie Showcase is one of the best deals in town. Details
Friday, November 6: Pick Your Laugh
Friday is a comedy night, and you've got two great options:
- Consensual Improv at Thunder River Theatre in Carbondale, 8 PM. The troupe is celebrating 10 years of making the funny in the Roaring Fork Valley, back at the venue where it all started. Tickets
- Comedian Ben Roy at TACAW in Basalt, 8 PM. You've seen him on Comedy Central, HBO and Hulu, and Variety named him one of its Top Ten Comics to Watch. Tickets are limited to four per person and all sales are final. Tickets
Not in a laughing mood? An Evening with Easy Jim takes over Belly Up Aspen at 9 PM. Tickets
Saturday, November 7: The Taste
6:30 – 11 PM · Roaring Fork Club, Basalt
This is the Basalt Education Foundation's annual fundraiser, and it's a party. Think a branding bar with hats and leather goods by Summit Brim, DJ Naka G spinning all night, the launch of new Basalt Longhorn gear from The Herd Supply, bites and drinks from 30-plus local vendors and a silent auction (online and in person). Tickets at basaltedu.org
Heading to Aspen instead? Beach Weather plays Belly Up at 8:30 PM. Tickets
Sunday, November 8: Dance-A-Thon or Margaret Glaspy
- Dance-A-Thon: Across All Decades at the Third Street Center Community Hall in Carbondale, 4 – 7 PM. Dance Initiative's 2026 fundraiser is a dance marathon and performance showcase with music from every decade, so dig out your favorite era-inspired outfit. $25 adults, $15 kids.
- Margaret Glaspy: The I Am Both Tour (Solo) at TACAW in Basalt, 7 PM. The New York singer-songwriter brings her folk-rock songs to an intimate solo set. Four tickets per person, all sales final. Tickets
My Picks
If you only do one thing this week, make it The Taste. It's a great night out, and it supports the kids in our valley. Then save Sunday for the Dance-A-Thon, because nothing shakes off offseason like dancing through the decades.
Tickets for many of these go fast, so check each venue before you head out. See you out there, and I'll be back next week with a new Weekly Best!
